Polyurethane Foam

Polyurethane foam

Polyurethane foam roofing is an economical but high-performance choice for buildings with a flat or low-sloped roof. And at Conklin Roofing Systems, we guarantee your new Polyurethane roof will save you time and money on your business (or home), and we stand behind our systems with some of the industry’s longest-lasting warranties.

As an alternative to a complete re-roofing, Polyurethane foam is lightweight, about eight ounces per square foot, and flexible in application. Thus it can be applied to nearly every roofing material in no time and won’t exceed any structural load capacities while adding strength to a roof. Even if underlying areas of saturated insulation are found on a structure’s roof, only minimal tear-off may be required with polyurethane foam compared to other roofing options (the foam application often weighs less than the weight of the tear-off – thus the roof is actually lighter than before). But minimal or no tear-off plus easy application means fewer labor hours for the roofing contractor and less disruption in the customer’s life.

The foam also is a terrific insulator, which means the customer’s home or business will be more energy efficient. And foam won’t need roof penetrating fasteners, which can affect insulation. Industry studies have shown Polyurethane foam to be the most efficient form of thermal insulation available, one that can pay for itself in energy savings in just a few years.

Once the mixture is sprayed on by a trained professional, it expands to up to 50 times its volume to form a seamless membrane. Leaks are a problem in many roofs, but Polyurethane foam is seamless once it becomes rigid.

Because it’s applied as a liquid, it can be ideal to help build of the slope of a roof or on roofs that have unique/odd angles or slopes. This is another big advantage over other roofing systems that require flashing materials with sealants that can frequently result in leaks; a foam application is self-flashing and flows around all protrusions, such as roof vents and cooling units, to form a tight bond. Polyurethane foam also can be layered on top of itself to help enhance drainage. By using multiple layers of foam on low spots of existing roofs, foam creates proper drainage.

A Polyurethane foam system generally requires little to no maintenance. Should there be some damage, however, simple caulking is sufficient for repair in most cases. And if a leak were to occur, it’s much easier to locate. In fact, on the off chance an entire hole is punched through the entire membrane, water movement will be restricted to the hole. A tube of caulk solves the problem.

To top the foam system, we offer high-quality coatings such as Benchmark® or Rapid Roof® III acrylic latex. They cure to form a seamless, flexible covering that protects the foam from sunlight and moisture, and the reflective white finish on our coatings make structures even more energy efficient. Your contractor can conduct an energy audit to estimate your particular energy savings and pay-back value. But all of our coatings come with three optional warranties, each with a minimum 10-year guarantee.

Polyurethane foam is a fairly new roofing system in the industry, but its benefits are evident: waterproofing, a terrific insulator, ease of application, lightweight, low maintenance, energy efficient, self-flashing, easy to repair and much more.

Consider Conklin Roofing Systems and its contractors when choosing a Polyurethane foam roofing system. Most building owners will save substantial time and money with a foam system.
